Golfer’s Tips
- Driver can often be the play here, perhaps more than most links courses – avoiding fairway bunkers is key, but there is room for errant tee shots and this is not a short course.
- The short par four 14th is unlikely to be drivable, even for the longest hitters. A central fairway bunker at around 220 yards must be avoided, with an iron for safety leaving at least 120 yards in to a very well protected and undulating green, whilst a well-placed longer tee shot can leave more of a pitch in.
Signature Holes
- 1st – a wonderful opening hole. A reasonably long par four played from a raised tee box with panoramic views across the course and down the fairway descending between mounds towards the sea.
- 17th – following a drive to a fairway further uphill, an excellent green complex sits beyond a stream that runs along the front, with a bunker front right and grassy bank beyond.

Review:
Trevose is a wonderfully fun links reaching over a generous patch of land flanked by the rugged Atlantic coast.
The start is an excellent one, likely the best and most visually impactful stretch of the course. The opener is superb, a downhill par four with the fairway narrowing among bunkers prior to a sharper descent down between mounds to the green, all with the Atlantic in view beyond. The second is shorter and more strategic heading in the same direction, before the par three 3rd played across a valley to a green on the side of a hill, where anything short or right faces a dramatic drop off. The longer fourth hole then turns around a hill on the left of the fairway, and reaches to a green well protected by deep links bunkers with a beautiful view of the beach and rocky coastline beyond.
Trevose is challenging, a links course exposed to the elements with some really interesting green complexes, but it is playable. Played in early March, the rough is not up and the landing areas are generous – aside from streams traversing a few holes, it is reasonably difficult to lose your ball.
Turning inland, the fifth is a long par four playing uphill, followed by the sixth and seventh which are shorter but possess some tricky raised green complexes with significant drop offs and green-side bunkering. The eighth then provides a par three that is almost a reversal of the fourth, of similar length but with the hill on the right side where the prevailing wind is likely to be coming from.
After two par fives straddling the turn, and another long par three on eleven when past the wonderful little halfway hut, the following section covering the middle of the plot is perhaps not quite as memorable nor attractive, yet there are still holes to navigate and the approaches into greens still require full attention.
The finishing three holes pose a significant challenge. Sixteen is a long 200-yard par three, followed by two uphill par fours working back up the hill to the clubhouse perched on top of the hill. Seventeen is shorter, with a stream that cuts across in front of the green, and the final hole is a brute – 425 yards straight up the hill to a narrow sloping green.
Overall, Trevose is a very enjoyable place to play golf – picturesque and playable, but with just enough intrigue and shot-making challenge to make this a very worthwhile day out.
